About

Email: joanna@thetherapyspace.co

Life is constantly changing and bringing new opportunities and challenges. Sometimes we can feel stuck, hopeless, and unsure of how to navigate change. I believe that authenticity and being true to our values is the way to having a meaningful life. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anger, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, self-harm, stress, and trauma. I also have experience working with individuals who have concerns about their substance use. My hope is that our work together will help you find a new way to relate to yourself, others, and life in general.

I’m familiar with a few different therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I think it’s important to discuss what you want from therapy and choose our approach based on your individual wants and needs. I’m also a firm believer that our relationship is the most important part of what makes therapy work for you. To help you feel safe being your authentic self with me, I approach our relationship with an awareness of how trauma impacts many of us, a commitment to be respectful and responsive to your needs, and anti-oppressive values.

A little about me: I love reading fantasy novels, hiking with my two dogs (an English Lab and a Chihuahua/Boston Terrier mix), and almost always have a tea nearby. I’m also First-Generation Polish-Canadian and have a weakness for pierogi. Lastly, I have firsthand experience accessing mental healthcare, so I know how daunting it can be.

If you’re interested in figuring out whether I’m the right therapist for you, give me a call at (226) 533-6630 or email me at joanna@thetherapyspace.co to schedule a free 20-minute consultation. I’m looking forward to learning more about you.

Q&A with

Joanna Kapron

What is it like working with you?

I meet you wherever you’re at and prioritize a genuine connection where you feel you can be honest without any judgment. I’m comfortable holding space for whatever big emotions come up in therapy and helping you process your experience. I respect our diverse histories and identities and am always curious to learn more about you, your perspective on life, and what’s important to you.

What do you like most about being a therapist?

I love being fully present and in the moment with another person. I think that a big part of my work is giving another person the space to be themselves. I get to watch individuals meet their goals, but also grow in wonderful and unexpected ways.

What are some ways you take care of your mental health?

Prioritizing physical health (sleep, exercise, nutrition, etc.), being in nature, spending time with my two dogs, regular meditation, being with loved ones, getting tea with friends, journaling, having realistic expectations of myself, going to my own therapy, gardening, reading, and prayer. I also seek professional supervision so I can be a more effective therapist.
