Frequently asked questions
Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a psychotherapist. Grounded in dialogue, it provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who’s empathetic, objective, and non-judgmental. You and your therapist will collaboratively identify goals, explore specific thought or behaviours patterns and work to instill meaningful change.
It is important to be aware of the uncomfortable thoughts or feelings that may arise when you begin therapy. These feelings are completely normal and can be openly discussed with your therapist as you explore where it may be coming from. However, it may also increase your tolerance for such experiences, or lead to their reduction. Some of the benefits of psychotherapy may include:
• Increased positive thoughts and reframing of negative thinking patterns
• Improved overall mood and positive changes in behaviour
• Enhanced communication skills and more fulfilling relationships
• Increased self-esteem
• Self-acceptance and self-compassion
• Enhanced self-awareness
We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation where you get to meet with your potential therapist. This is your time to see if you connect with them and to ask them any questions that you may have. This is your journey and your mental health care, so it is so important that you and your therapist click.
We recommend to start with weekly sessions to begin exploring your concerns and focusing in on your goals. Once you start reaching your goals, we can start talking about reducing the frequency of sessions.
We process all of the payments using our secure booking and tele-therapy software, Jane. Once you choose a therapist and book an appointment with them, you will be able to securely add your credit card on file. Payments are processed following each session using the card on your file.
We require at least a 24 hours notice for appointment cancellations. If sessions are cancelled less than 24 hours in advance, or no shows, they are subject to the full fee being charged. To notify us of a cancellation, please email us at— info@thetherapyspace.co or email your therapist directly.
Most insurance providers accept psychotherapy services under their benefits; however, each insurance company is different. We encourage you to check with your individual insurance provider to make sure that you’re covered. After each session, you will be provided with a digital receipt including all the information required for an insurance claim.
